Motorhome holiday in Northumberland.

There’s nothing quite like a Staycation in a motorhome and if you’ve never been to Northumberland, you’re missing a treat. With a motorhome, you can travel around the county; there are so many places to visit, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Click here to hire one of our luxury motorhomes. You can find plenty of places to park your motorhome on independant sites, for example The Barn at the Beal where you can enjoy a wonderful meal and reception at The Bothy before heading back to the warmth and comfort of your luxury motorhome.  This particular site is on the entrance to the causeway to The Holy Island of Lindisfarne.  You must keep a keen eye on tide times if you’re planning on crossing to the island and don’t take any chances or you could be in big trouble. The tide times can be found here. Book your luxury motorhome here

It’s a lovely walk over the causeway, whatever the weather and there are plenty of photo opportunities on the way. We parked our Motorhome at The Barn at the Beal which has lovely facilities and fabulous views.

Another fabulous place to visit from this site is if you venture about 19 miles South along the coast, you will arrive at Seahouses where you can catch a boat trip to the Farne Islands. Sir David Attenborough called the Farne Islands his favourite place in the UK to see ‘magnificent nature’. Praise indeed! There are a few companies that offer trips over to the Farne Islands; the one we’ve used is Billy Shiels  who we found incredibly informative It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and enjoyable for all ages. Book your luxury motorhome here and make sure you experience this trip if you’re in the area.

We visited the Farne Island during mating season; they weren’t too keen on us watching it seems.

You can also get fabulous Fish and Chips from Seahouses, perfect if you’re tired and don’t fancy cooking; genuinely, you’ll find it difficult to beat the food from Neptunes. Everything is cooked fresh and they offer sit in (Covid allowing) and take out.

We are happy to give you any advise from our personal experiences, you just need to ask. Book here.

Staycation in a Luxury Motorhome in Scotland

Perhaps one of our favourite destinations for a Staycation is the village of Killin, which sits on the western end of the the beautiful Loch Tay in the Lomond and Trossachs National Park area. This is a superb location for hiking, wildlife spotting, canoeing or just taking it easy and taking in the incredible scenery. Imagine mountains, lakes, beaches, castles and you get the general idea. The beautiful Falls of Dochart as well as Finlarg Castle are short walk away. If you enjoy cycling, you have local access to the Loch Tay cycling route. Book here.

The Maragowan Caravan & Motorhome Club site sits on the edge of Killin and is a site we’d most definitely recommend. Once you’ve booked, make sure you arrive at the earliest check-in time so you can a choose pitch backing on to the River Lochay.

The beautiful remains of Finlarg Castle.

Our two spaniels love Killin because they can be off the lead a fair bit and they get a swim in the Loch. You could walk for miles around some of the trails and not bump in to anybody.

There’s a number of good pubs and restaurants nearby, but the one that stands out for us The Courie Inn on Main Street. The food is amazing and the hosts and service are equal to it.

We might go out for the day and rarely move the motorhome unless we’re moving site. Lunch might be at a local cafe or pub or antipasti at the motorhome. This is what staycations are all about.

In the afternoon, we might go for a bike ride, another long walk with the dogs or visit the local town and have a coffee and a cake. The thing is, with the obvious occasional exception of the weather, you can have a perfect staycation and a break from normal everyday Covid life. Book here.

We prefer to eat at the van and rarely venture out to the pubs.  On the occasions we have, it’s great to not have to drive, have a good meal then return, full and merry to very comfortable bed in the motorhome.

We can put a pizza in the oven, cook a pasta meal or even a full dinner in the van. Personally, I prefer to eat simply and the pasta, antipasti and salads are my go to favourites.  In the evening, this entirely depends on the weather and quite honestly, even if it’s raining or snowing, we have still enjoyed a wonderful staycation in every country in the UK and Ireland.  We might sit outside and watch the sun dip into the ground, play cards, scrabble or watch a DVD. In truth, we rarely watch anything on the telly or DVD as there are so many other more favourable options when you’re enjoying your staycation in beautiful surroundings. Our motorhomes have solar power and gas on board so you can easily enjoy a couple of nights off track. Book here.
